Opportunity Description:
Applications are now being accepted for the 2025 – 2026 Emerging Leaders in Aging (ELIA) Program, a collaboration between AGS and Tideswell at University of California, San Francisco. The program benefits health care professionals, generally 4-10 years out from training, who are embarking on a relatively new leadership endeavor with challenges that involve leading others and leading change to improve the health and lives of older adults. Past scholars are interprofessional, and lead clinical, research, or educational programs. Applications are welcome from health professionals including, but not limited to physicians, nurses, pharmacists, psychologists, social workers, physical and occupational therapists, and non-clinicians with evidence of training or experience in aging. An academic affiliation is not required.
The program is looking for emerging leaders committed to creating communities where ageism, ableism, classism, homophobia, racism, sexism, xenophobia, and other forms of bias and discrimination no longer impact healthcare access, quality, and outcomes for older adults and their caregivers.
The program, designed to enhance and leverage existing leadership skills, consists of activities from September to May, with the anticipation that the community of scholars from all cohorts will remain meaningful colleagues throughout their careers.
Program components:
• A three-day workshop (October 8-10, 2025) at University of Rochester, NY
• Six monthly 1-hour small-group videoconferences with senior advisors and including independent readings and assignments;
• Completion of a Leadership Practicum with mentorship from program advisors and a local institution mentor selected by the applicant;
• A two-day workshop (Spring 2026) that includes a presentation of your Practicum to AGS leaders (exact date and location TBD)
• Visit the Tideswell website to learn more.
