External Endorsements and Affirmation of Values
The AGS considers endorsement of clinical practice guidelines and position statements developed by other organization that meets AGS criteria and process. These publications may be placed in the following categories: endorsed or affirmation of value.
AGS Criteria for Endorsement
- AGS supports the general principles in the document and believes it is of general benefit to its membership.
- The document does not contradict current AGS policy or clinical guidance.
- The document was commissioned by an organization (not a group of individuals)
- Sponsoring organization has provided adequate time for AGS to comment on a draft of the document (minimum of 4 weeks).
- Sponsoring organization has given AGS adequate time to review changes made in response to its and other organizations comments in order to determine if AGS will endorse the final document (minimum of 2 weeks).
- Author COI will be published in the final document.
- Preferred: An AGS-nominated a representative serving on the expert panel/development committee/task force/writing group.
- Preferred: Document has been made available for a public comment period.
Affirmation of Value
Document either does NOT meet the endorsement criteria listed above or AGS cannot endorse all the content; however it does meet ALL of the following criteria:
- AGS supports the general principles in the document and believes it is of general benefit to its membership.
- The document does not contradict current AGS policy or clinical guidance.
- The document was commissioned by an organization (not a group of individuals).
- Author COI will be published in the final document
- Sponsoring organization has given AGS adequate time for final document review and determination as to whether AGS will endorse or provide affirmation of value (minimum of 2 weeks).
- The document does not contradict current AGS policy or clinical guidance.
For affirmation of value, the following language can be included on the first page of the document: “AGS affirms the value of this document” with a footnote that defines affirmation as follows: “AGS supports the general principles in the document and believes it is of general benefit to its membership.”
