Sensory Impairment and Cognitive Decline (2017)
The five-year U13 Bench-to-Bedside conference grant is a cooperative effort between the National Institute on Aging and the American Geriatrics Society.
About the Conference
The 2017 AGS/NIA U13 conference took place on Oct. 2-3 in Bethesda, MD and is the first of three conferences in the current series. It focused on sensory impairment and cognitive decline. Converging epidemiologic evidence links sensory impairment (vision/hearing) to risk of cognitive decline and incident dementia. The functional challenges imposed by sensory impairment are more difficult to overcome when accompanied by even mild cognitive impairments, and vice versa. The conference included a professional development track for young investigators who are rising stars in their fields to ensure continued excellence in tomorrow’s generation of geriatrics researchers.
