Geriatrics in the News

July 20th, 2010

The AGS Communications Department continues to secure both national and local media coverage of geriatrics and the AGS. As a result of ongoing media outreach and the generous assistance of members who have volunteered as media spokespersons, several news outlets have reported on the field and AGS in recent weeks.

A July 19 Boston Globe article quoted Sharon Brangman, MD, AGSF, AGS President, and Robert Schreiber, MD, AGS member. The article highlights “Learning by Living,” a six-year-old program that hopes to increase interest in the field of geriatrics by providing med students with a realistic experience of being an older adult.

On July 5, Jennie Chin Hansen, RN, FAAN, and AGS member and past president, David Reuben, MD, were on the KCRW/Public Radio International program, "To the Point." They discussed the new Boston University study on longevity.

David B. Reuben, MD, AGS member, commented for the New York Times June 28 article, “Preparing More Care of Elderly,” part of its series about the impact of health care reforms on ordinary people. Judith Salerno, MD, AGS member executive officer of the Institute of Medicine Washington, D.C., was also quoted in the story.

“Despite Aging Baby Boomers, N.I.H. Devotes Only 11 Percent to Elderly Studies,” a June 28 New York Times piece, quoted AGS member Marie Bernard, MD, AGSF, Deputy Director of the National Institute on Aging, and Nancy Lundebjerg, MPA, COO of the AGS.
